The Green Renovations for your Home seminar is less concerned with selling products, more concerned with public education. The speakers will discuss different building materials, propose sustainable solutions, and examine the cost of different renovation options on our environment and the pocketbook. Admission is free.

10:00 Ana Caiado from Ecobuildingstore.ca will look at American Clay and Natural Lime Plasters as an alternative to paint.

10:15 Architect Sevag Pogharian will talk about building homes that are 'net zero energy' and take advantage of solar power.

10:30 Roger Simpson will explain the installation, efficiency and economic benefits of geothermal heating.

10:45 Local green homeowner Bart Pleszewski will share the ups and downs of building green and what he would do differently if he did it all again.

11:00 Pierre Tournay will provide tips and suggestions for better lighting both inside and outside our homes.

11:15 Francois Nsenga will speak about the surprising potential of the lowly waterweed, which can be used for thatched roofs, pellet heating, wastewater filtration, paneling and fences.

11:30 Alexandra Vincent will talk about using ecological interior design to create healthy living spaces.

11:45 Paul Grizenko will discuss the sustainable, long-lasting, low maintenance benefits of a metal roof.

Les présentateurs discuteront de divers matériaux de construction, nous proposeront des solutions viables et examineront les coûts de différentes options de rénovation et leur impact sur l'environnement et notre portefeuille.L'entrŽe est gratuite.

Force of Nature: The David Suzuki Movie

Feu Vert/Go Green Hudson presents Force of Nature: The David Suzuki Movie on Wednesday, January 12. In this recently released film, David Suzuki, the iconic Canadian scientist, educator, broadcaster and activist, delivers a 'last lecture'—what he describes as "a distillation of my life and thoughts, my legacy, what I want to say before I die". The film interweaves the lecture with scenes from the places and events in Suzuki's life.

Wednesday, January 12, 7:30 p.m. at the Hudson Community Centre, 394 Main Rd. The film's award-winning director Sturla Gunnarsson will join us via Skype for a chat after the film. Admission is free.

Using Lights While Preserving the Night Sky

Go Green Hudson is pleased to announce the talk "Using Lights While Preserving the Night Sky" by Pierre Tournay at St. James church Tuesday, November 9 from 7:30 to 8:30pm, 642 Main Rd, Hudson. Tournay will show us how we can use lights, save money AND enjoy a beautiful sky. After the talk, weather permitting, Tournay and other astronomy enthusiasts, will lead an exploration of the night sky above Hudson. Through their telescopes, we will view Jupiter, the ET cluster, double stars and the Veil Nebula (a supernova remnant). Optional: participants can bring their own telescopes and binoculars. This event is free, bilingual and everyone is welcome.

Feu Vert Hudson est heureux d'annoncer la conférence S'éclairer tout en conservant la noirceur du ciel par Pierre Tournay à l'Église St-James, au 642, rue Main, Hudson, le mardi 9 novembre de 19h30 à 20h30. M. Tournay nous démontrera comment nous pouvons nous éclairer tout en économisant de l'argent et en appréciant un ciel magnifique. Suite à la conférence, si la température le permet,ĘM. Tournay et autres enthousiates de l'astronomie nous guideront dans l'exploration du ciel nocturne de Hudson. À l'aide de leurs téléscopes, nous verrons Jupiter le constellation ET, des étoiles doubles et la nébula Veil (un reste de supernova.) Vous êtes invités à apporter vos téléscopes personnels et vos longues vues. Cet évènement est gratuit, bilingue et tous sont bienvenus.

On August 21, 2010 we presented The Clean Bin Project, a feature documentary film about a regular couple and their quest to answer the question "is it possible to live completely waste free?". In it partners Jen and Grant go head to head in a competition to see who can swear off consumerism and produce the least landfill garbage in an entire year. Their light-hearted competition is set against a darker examination of the sobering problem of waste in North American society.
Vancouver-based filmmakers Jenny Rustemeyer and Grant Baldwin joined us for a discussion after the screening.

"A Chemical Reaction" on June 16, 2010. The film tells the story of how local dermatologist Dr June Irwin came to the realization that pesticides were making her patients sick and how she spearheaded the campaign to ban pesticides in our town.
Hudson was the first municipality in North America to do so, and the film recounts how our town's legal battle with the big chemical companies went all the way to the Supreme Court.
Executive producer/narrator Paul Tukey, director Brett Plymale, and mayor Michael Elliott joined us for a discussion after the film.

Earth Keepers: A Survival Guide for a Planet in Peril on May 19.
This feature documentary by Sylvie Van Brabant introduces Mikael Rioux, a young Québécois activist. Spurred by his passionate concern for the world his son will inherit, Rioux goes on a global quest to meet 7 visionaries with concrete solutions to ecological problems. Together, they offer a survival guide for our planet and a journey back to hope. Director Van Brabant and researcher/assistant director Jean Lapalme joined us for an inspiring talk.

Ce documentaire suit la quête de Mikael Rioux, un jeune activiste natif de Trois-Pistoles. C'est Christian De Laet, 80 ans, pionnier du mouvement environnemental canadien qui est son guide et son mentor. Il envoie Mikael à la rencontre de vision- naires qui ont créé des projets innovateurs pour l'avenir de la société.

Earth Day 2010: Another successful Hudson Earth Day Fair was held at the Stephen F. Shaar Community Centre on April 25. 400 or so visitors came to meet over 35 local businesses and non-profit organizations who were sharing information and exhibiting products that can help us succeed in leading more environmentally sustainable lives. This year the members of the Thursday farmerŐs market were a new and popular addition. Rohini Persi, president of the Environmental Health Association of Quebec, gave a talk entitled 'How Green Is Your Clean?'

Eat Your Lanscape Seminar Organic permaculture farmer and northern fruit specialist Dr. Ken Taylor came to Hudson March 24, to give a free seminar on how each of us can eat local and eat better by growing more food right in our own backyards. After the discussion there was a small auction of unusual and interesting plants and heritage seeds.

Dans le cadre de sa série de conférences environnementales 2009-2010, Feu Vert/Go Green Hudson a présenté la conférence Dégustons notre jardin. Le fermier Bio et spécialiste en fruits Nordiques Dr. Ken Taylor est venu à Hudson le mercredi 24 mars afin de nous présenter une conférence gratuite qui nous a démontré comment nous pouvons manger 'localement' et même mieux, faire pousser plus de nourriture chez soi, dans nos jardins. Suite à la conférence il y a eu un encan de plantes rares et de graines 'héritage'.

Feu Vert/Go Green Hudson screened "No Impact Man", a documentary film that recounts the experience lived by New Yorker Colin Beavan and his family when they tried to live for one year with little or no impact on the environment. This screening, on January 27, was the second event in our 2009-2010 film/seminar series. Colin Beavan joined us via Skype after the film.

Go Green Hudson screened the documentary "H2Oil" on Thursday, December 10th as the first event in our 2009-2010 Film/Seminar Series. The film by Shannon Walsh investigates the effects of Alberta's oil sands on the province's water supply, and how some are trying to defend the water against tar sands expansion.
H2Oil writer/director Shannon Walsh and producer Sarah Spring joined us for a Q&A after the film.

Go Green Hudson co-sponsored a private screening of the film "Hudson: A Chemical Reaction" on June 1, 7 p.m. at the Village Theatre.
"Hudson: A Chemical Reaction" is an hour-long documentary about Hudson's role as the first town in North America to ban the residential use of pesticides. Guided by the inspiration of Dr. June Irwin, in 1991 the town of Hudson went to the Supreme Court and made history. Many towns across North America have since followed Hudson's example.
Mayor Michael Elliot, June Penney, councillor Diana Togneri, and town clerk Louise Villandre are all featured in this film that celebrates Hudson's accomplishment. NDP MP Thomas Mulcair and Supreme Court judge, Claire L'Heureux-Dubé were guests of honour at the screening.

"Waste Diversion: Don't Throw Our World Away." Feu Vert/Go Green Hudson hosted an environmental seminar about the ways we deal with waste in our homes and on the municipal level. The seminar featured guest speakers Claude Martel, Director of Sierra Club Canada's Quebec chapter, and Rod Muir, Sierra Club Canada's waste diversion campaigner.
Muir reminded us that by composting and recycling we can divert over 80% of what goes in the garbage. Martel explained why Montreal's plans to convert garbage into a synthetic fuel source are unsustainable. The seminar took place on April 2, 2009 at the Hudson Community Centre.

Making Cents of Going Green — A Go Green Hudson Environmental Seminar. Kimon Valaskakis, PhD, talked about why going green makes economic sense in these turbulent financial times. Dr. Valaskakis explained how individuals, businesses, and governments can all play a role in developing a sustainable economy. The seminar took place on January 15, 2009 at the Hudson Community Centre.

The second event in our environmental series was a talk by Daniel Brisebois from La Ferme Tournesol and Loïc Dewavrin of La Ferme Longprés on eating, growing and thinking about local food.  Both discussed the challenges and rewards of organic farming, and shared their ideas on making it easier for consumers to buy locally-grown food. This talk took place on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the Hudson Community Centre.

Environmental Seminar: "Environmental Issues In Canada: A Political Perspective" NDP leader Jack Layton and Outremont NDP MP Thomas Mulcair gave this inspiring and informative talk in Hudson on Monday, June 16th, 2008. There was a large turnout for the event and the talk was followed by some interesting questions and discussion with the politicians.

Green Energy for your Home Seminar, 2008: On Saturday, January 19th Go Green hosted a Green Energy Seminar at the Hudson Community Centre. More than 175 visitors came to listen to more than 2 hours of talks presented by our panel of experts. Topics included geothermal heating, ecological wood heating, EnerGuide evaluation, solar energy, eco-friendly timber frame construction, “net-zero” housing, and green building and renovation.

Earth Day 2007: Go Green made its debut at the 2007 Hudson Family Earth Day Environmental Fair. More than 25 businesses and services came together to share environmentally responsible products and ideas with more than 300 residents of Hudson and its surrounding communities. This event featured a viewing of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”.
